BENEFICIARY: ROYAL FAMILY KIDS
ROYAL FAMILY KIDS OF AUSTIN
In 24 years of operation, Royal Family Kids of Austin has served over 1,000 foster children from the Central Texas region. Each summer, RFKC provides a life-changing summer camp experience for foster kids between the ages of 7 and 11, who are victims of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. During camp, encouraging curriculum demonstrates worth and inspires hope inside every camper. Plus, with a 2:1 camper-to-counselor ratio, each child gets all the one-on-one attention need, and royal treatment all week long.
FOSTER CARE IN TEXAS
There are over 9,000 kids ages 6-12 in the Texas foster care system. Approx. 50 children enter the Texas foster care system every day, and around 1,000 foster youth "age out" each year when they turn 18. Only 3% will graduate from college, and many will find their way into prison and poverty.
WHAT IS CAMP LIKE?
When campers arrive, it's not unusual for them to be closed off, but you'd be amazed at the changes we witness in a single week, thanks to the tireless work of our caring all-volunteer staff. Every day is packed with activities like canoeing, crafts, and model rockets. On Thursday we host an all-camp birthday, because most foster kids have never had a birthday party of their own. And when it's time to head home, every camper receives a photo album made by their counselor so they can keep the good memories going long after camp is over.
